Pancakes & Purple Balloons!!

Shrove Tuesday was February 24th this year. This is the day when many Christians "get shriven" meaning they confess and get absolution from sins and look to begin the penitent season of Lent (the 40 days of prayer, penitence and fasting preceding Easter). Traditionally, many churches held pancake suppers as a nod to the days when folks would prepare for Lent by getting rid of all of the butter and fat (hence the pancakes) in their homes before fasting for Lent. Shrove Tuesday is more widely known as also being the day of Mardi Gras - yes, Mardi Gras has its roots in the church - go figure!

I tell you all of this because Langston went to his first Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper/Mardi Gras party at church this February. And it was there that he tasted his first pancake - I think he liked it! But not as much as the balloon that has lasted way past the pancakes and beads - that thing will last forever - it is in his nursery now and he still plays with it! Thanks Maggie and Rachel for helping with Langston that night! (Oh and that spot on my shirt - that's where Langston likes to wipe his nose when he has a cold - ahh, the joys of motherhood!)
