1 month in daycare

Langston has been in daycare for one month today! He LOVES it!!! And they love him at the center and we love that he loves it! I think about our friend Janet who told us when her son went to school she asked him what he did during the day and he answered, "I just played and played."
That's how I think Langston feels about daycare - because he loves the toys and the bright colors and he loves to just play and play!

He is growing so! He is crawling like a pro - he still does the military crawl when he needs to get low, but he has also mastered the regular baby crawl and can really achieve some speed! On February 16, Gene called me from downstairs to tell me he had pulled himself up on his walker! Just the next day, the day care remarked that he was pulling himself up on anything and everything. Teacher Sonia had even mentioned earlier that he was a pretty bright kid, going slowly over the soft, elevated (almost like a little bridge) steps that they have in the middle room. Most kids, she said, just go over quickly and without much care, which can lead to them falling to one side or toppling over. Not Langston, he would go slowly, take his time and carefully go up on set of stairs, make his way across and go down the other side without falling. Brilliant (but of course, Gene and I already knew that!)

By Wednesday of that week (the 18th) Langston was pulling himself up in his crib! I put him to sleep and then sat quietly in the chair in his room. I watched while the little wheels turned in his head (he didn't know I was there) as he assessed the situation - being left alone in his crib...and believe me, he wanted out! He was so funny - he sized up the crib sides, figured out how to get his knees underneath him and then pull up to peer over the edge. Well, that was all he needed - now whenever we put him in there, he immediately pops up to look out at us and beg for freedom...there's no going back. And - the really wild thing is, we've already lowered the crib mattress once and now, just barely two weeks later, we're going to have to lower it again!

Oh well - that's what happens when they grow up and of course, we wouldn't change a thing.

Just to prove how much he's growing and becoming more mobile and strong-willed and funny and lovable (if that's even possible), here are some pics and video we took of him a week ago on the 20th. His ball rolled away from him and the toy to which it belonged so he went after it wholeheartedly and ended up under his exersaucer, and what did he do once he got under there? He just played and played.
