Langston is truly incredible! He has two imaginary friends. Well, they're not imaginary friends as in he's asking for them to have their own plates at dinner, but for months now, he's been telling me all about his friends, "Cotto and Cayman." They're twins apparently, or at least brothers. It's always Cotto and Cayman this and Cotto and Cayman that. Langston - where did you learn how to do that? Cotto and Cayman showed me, Mommy. Imagine countless references to these two boys. Countless.
I aksed Gene once, who are these boys have you met them? And he told me, he had heard the name Cayman at L's school so they were definitely real. (I was getting concerned and had mentioned to Gene, do these people exist? or worse yet, is L seeing ghosts? - That's what I get for watching one episode of "supernatural" on tv.
So, one day last week, when L came home he told me (as I had just told him to wash hiands for dinner) that "Cotto and Cayman's mommy doesn't make them wash their hands for dinner." So, of course I had to tell him that Cotto and Cayman didn't live here and as long as he DID, he would be washing his hands for dinner.
Then the next day, when I was picking Langston up, I asked one of his teachers about it. They told me they didn't have any kids at school by that name. I told her L talks about them all of the time and she said, "Yes, Langston has an incredible imagination." So I asked L about it and of course, he goes mute. On the way home, I asked him what Cotto and Cayman looked like. He told me they looked like him. "With the same eyes and the same socks." And, he met them along time ago, at their "old school which is far, far away." Well, OK then. Apparantly Cotto and Cayman also have a pool.
Yesterday, on the way home from our Easter dinner with Gene's family, Langston asked me how the Easter Bunny got his bunny ears (that he has seen in older Easter photos from past years and that showed up in his Easter baskets again this year.) What 3 year old thinks like that? And it was so out of the blue. I mean, the entire day had passed and it was like he was reflecting on his day and thinking about all of the Easter festivities and it suddenly occurred to him, "hey wait a miute? How did the Easter bunny get my ears?" Gotta be careful with that boy!
